I have been following the Corona Virus or Covid-19 since the start of January when just a few reports started to come out of China. For the last two months, I have watched it escape the Chinese control grid to the point where it has now caused more reported cases outside of China than in.
Here at Bar9 we normally focus on how to protect your savings by using allocated gold bullion sitting in top-tier Swiss vaulting facilities outside of the flimsy global banking system, but we realise that money is nothing unless you have your health. For that reason I thought I would gather my thoughts around Wim Hof and if it would be useful if I caught the coronavirus that’s currently sweeping the world.
We have been seeing a huge spike of startups saying that they almost have a Vaccine but a real vaccine will take months if not years to test and produce in mass. There are also reports that some antivirals have helped that was developed for the SARS outbreak a few years back.
But there was another phenomenon that struck me the other day. Wim Hof! I have personally been following and using Wim Hof’s cold exposure and sometimes his breathing techniques for about 3 years now and since doing so my immune system has been much much stronger. I have only gotten a few colds but haven’t had a flue in those three years when I used to get one each year! I do not skip a shower without turning it onto cold at the end, bringing it up to my right leg, down the left, up to the chest then over my head. I then breathe and relax while in a type of meditative state. I turn the fear of cold into a love of it. It’s a must-do ritual for me every morning.
But let’s get back to Wim Hof and why his techniques are interesting for the COVID-19 virus. In 2011 Wim thought that his method was so good at boosting the immune system that he decided under scientific scrutiny to get himself infected with an endotoxin that would normally cause a high fever, headaches and vomiting. Wim managed to pass the disease with the use of hyperventilating, meditation and cold exposure. The study was published and many were gobsmacked. Can a person really influence their own autoimmune system?
Many hypothesised that this was because Wim was genetically special and because of this it’s not that interesting. So in 2015, Wim went back and received randomly selected 2 control groups. A group of people would be trained by Wim Hof in his breathing techniques and the other would not. Both groups were injected with the endotoxin that would cause nausea, headaches, inflammation and even throwing up. Every single person in the control group that did not perform the Wim Hof method got sick and every single person in the control group that did the Wim Hof Method passed the Nero toxin through their body without the typical bad symptoms.
These along with many other amazing Guinness book records has earned Wim Hof the name the Iceman. So can the Wim Hof Method protect you from Covid 19? I’m not sure but it’s free to do and has helped millions of people around the world defeat countless inflictions and diseases.
Why I think it could be interesting is that during the deep breathing and hyperventilation the blood and circulatory system apparently becomes a little alkaline for a little bit. This might not be the best place for the SARS-COV-2 the virus that causes COVID19 (novel coronavirus) to survive. The other thing that happens is that the heightened oxygen levels gives the body more energy, reduced stress levels, and an augmented immune response that can quickly deal with pathogens.
There is also a large reduction in inflammation which as far as I’m aware of is one of the main effects of Corona virus, is inflammation in the lungs. So maybe the rush of oxygen and adrenalin can help fight the Virus.
This is by no way medical advice and I am no Dr but the Wim Hof method is free to learn, free to do and I will definitely be using it if I’m unlucky enough to be struck down during this pandemic.

As with historical studies on WIM, it make sense to still encourage practice of these principles as they are freely available and can be used at anytime.
I have symptoms of corona virus. Is seems to me that Wim Hof method is helping.
i have symptoms of corona. one doktor said it is 99,9% sure i have it but they wont test until i got fever. since i got my first symptoms i started doing the breathing twice a day. it helps. it relieves the symptoms, it gives your body energy (make sure you use the energy wisely, i suggest you turn it inwards and take your rest) my short of breath goes away, i feel less sick overal. my lungs hurt sometimes while doing it. but when completed it becomes less for a couple of hours. i highly suggest you try the wim hof breathing when you have symptoms, or even better before any symptoms arise! listen to your body, dont overdo it.
one interesting thing. covid19 causes cytokine storm. simple said, it causes your imunesystem to overreact and attack your own cells until a moment all lung cells are damaged and you die.
a friend of mine had contact with the scientist that performed the experiments on wim hof himself. he ask if the breathing could control and lessen the cytokine storm. he said yes it does.
one other thing i have experienced by myself. i entered the unconcious part of myself while performing the breathing. wim hof calls it entering the autonome nervous system.
it could be the case that i have entered this unconcious part of myself. and in that part could lie the solution to the cytokine storm.
these are my own conclusions. i could be wrong.
